Games to play with friends in the same room
Spot the Fib is two truths and a lie. Everyone writes two true facts about themselves, the AI writes a believable fib in their style, and the group guesses the fake. It works even for friends who think they know everything about each other. 3 to 10 players, about 20 minutes, free for up to 3.
Most Likely asks "who's most likely to" questions inspired by your group. On three, everyone points. Best with old friends who know each other well. 3 to 10 players, about 15 minutes.
Wild Card is a fill in the blank card game. Play the funniest answer, or write your own for double points. Cheeky, not crude. 3 to 8 players, about 30 minutes.
All three run on one phone passed around the room. Spot the Fib and Wild Card can also run on everyone's own phone.
Classic games that need nothing
- Fishbowl: everyone writes words on scraps of paper. Two teams play three rounds with the same words: describe it, then say one word, then act it out.
- Categories: name a topic, like fruits or cities. Go round the circle. Whoever can't name a new one in five seconds is out.
- Mafia: a hidden-role game for 6 or more. A few players are secretly the mafia, and the town has to vote them out.
Games to play with friends online, on a video call
In Spot the Fib and Wild Card, the host opens a room and sends the link. Everyone joins on their own phone, so you can talk on Zoom, FaceTime, WhatsApp or Teams while you play. Nobody has to share a screen, and it works from different cities.
Other good picks for a call: Jackbox, if one person shares their screen (how it compares), and free drawing games like Gartic Phone and skribbl.io.
Games for two friends
In Sync on "Friends" asks questions about the two of you, like "Who is the better cook?" or "Who would survive longer on a desert island?", with your names as the answers. You answer in secret, reveal together and score as a team. Free, about 10 minutes, on one phone or two.
