What makes a good social game
- It's about the people. You learn something about the person next to you, not about capital cities.
- Everyone plays. No one sits out, and quiet people get a turn as much as loud ones.
- No prep. You can start within a minute, with whatever you have on you.
- Anyone can pass. Nobody is pushed into sharing more than they want.
- It ends with a laugh, not a loser. Our games end with fun titles for everyone. Don't be kiasu: everyone wins here.
Social games for meeting new people
Spot the Fib is the easiest icebreaker we know. Everyone shares two true facts, the AI adds a fib, and the group guesses. People end up asking "wait, you really did that?" There's a Work pack for colleagues and a Friends pack for everyone else.
Meeting one person? In Sync on "We just met" has one of you answer about yourself and the other guess from first impressions.
No phone handy? Try human bingo: a grid of squares like "has been to Japan" or "plays an instrument". Find someone who fits each one.
Social games for old friends
Most Likely turns what you know about each other into "who's most likely to" questions. Wild Card is a fill in the blank game for friends who like cheeky humour. Fishbowl, the word game played in three rounds, needs only paper and a bowl.
Social games for work
For a team social or an office party, Spot the Fib and Most Likely both have office-safe Work packs. Everyone can join on their own phone, in the room or on a call. See how this compares with a Kahoot quiz.
Social games or social deduction games?
Social deduction games, like Mafia or Werewolf, give players hidden roles, and the group argues about who is lying. They're great with 6 or more people who like a debate. The social games on this page are gentler: they're about getting to know each other, and they work with 2 to 10 people.
Questions
What are social games? Games where the fun comes from the people playing: sharing facts, guessing about each other and laughing together. Two truths and a lie and "who's most likely to" are classic examples.
What is a good social game for adults who just met? Spot the Fib: everyone writes two true facts about themselves, the AI adds one fib, and the group guesses the fake. It runs on one phone and is free for up to 3 players.
Do we need an app or a TV? No. Kiasu Games runs in a phone's web browser. One phone passed around is enough, and in Spot the Fib, Wild Card and In Sync everyone can also join on their own phone.
How many people can play? In Sync is for 2. Spot the Fib and Most Likely take 3 to 10. Wild Card takes 3 to 8.
